As announced, Apple has posted a new version of the iPhone NDA (PDF). The new version lifts the NDA in that way that is now allowed to the developers to talk about the SDK but only for already released versions.

Just a few minutes ago, the first review of PwGen Pro was released. Marc Thomalla from the german iPhone Application blog appsblog.de has reviewed the application and gave it a very good score as I interprete it.

Secure passwords are essential in our digital life to don’t make it easier than necessary for the bad guys. With PwGen you have an app at hand that generates secure passwords in seconds and send it to you via e-mail – even a lot of passwords at once.
First thing you should do is to go to the settings and select the type of the passwords. The following options are available:
- Uppercase characters
- Lowercase characters
- Numbers
- Special characters
- Length (4-22)
- Count (1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100)
After that you go back to the “Generator” and get your passwords. You can generate a new set every time you press the “Generate” button in the top right corner. The phonetic passwords can be pronounced but it needs some glibness sometimes.
A function that is called “reseed” generates passwords by moving the iPhone / touch. At the end of the process a loud bell rings (I was near to an heart-attack the first time…).
PwGen Pro is also available without the Pro as free version; the Pro version has the advantage of being completely localized to german language and that you can set almost all settings directly in the application instead of leaving the application and set them in the settings application of the device.

The generated passwords can be send via the mail client – a very convenient feature.

PwGen Pro convinces me with the really good passwords, which are pronounceable if you wish, that can be remembered though. Sending the passwords via e-mail is handy and supersedes to write them down.

Now that the first version of PwGen Pro is in the AppStore I think about new features to implement. I got two smaller requests that should be very easy to implement.
First thing is to generate a new password each time you shake your phone. I’m not sure how I can implement that in the interface but I think I will find a solution.
Second thing is to send the passwords via SMS. I’m not sure about this one because I don’t see the use of it. But maybe someone needs it and it shouldn’t be to much hassle to bring that in.
A bigger change will be the rewrite of the generation algorithm. I want to bring in some advanced features to it and this makes it necessary to rewrite the generator.
Another thing I think about is which features I should to backport to the free version and when should I do that.

version 1.0.1 of PwGen Pro is in the AppStore now. This version fixes some bugs that where in version 1.0. The inline settings wor as expected now and the “mail all passwords in one e-mail” too.

Hi,
version 1.0 of PwGen Pro has a small bug. It’s currently not possible to set password count and password length in the inline settings page. As workaround, you can set this options in the global settings application as you might know it from the free PwGen version.
The bug is already fixed and submitted to Apple. I think that the update will become available in the next week.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience and as small gift I expanded the introduction period until the update is available.

Is it just me, or does Apple collect certain kinds of apps for cumulated release in the AppStore?
I recognized that several times now. Today it happend again. Apple released, 4 (in words: four) apps for typing email in landscape mode. They are priced from 0.99 til 4.99 and all do exactly the same.
I don’t believe that this is pure coincidence. But on the other hand, I wonder how close this apps must have been submitted.
And last but not least, don’t they duplicate functionality of MobileMail.app?
